The “Dry Stone”
Theme for reflection
Discover the origins of Andorra through the dry stone
One of the first activities to be launched by Cal Pal is the “Pedra Seca” project, an initiative designed to encourage the study, awareness and conservation of dry-stone constructions in Andorra. The origins of Andorra, from the depths of its valleys to the heights of its mountains, are explained and perceived through this type of structure. Dry stone has always been important to Andorra, for two reasons: firstly, as a country with a tradition of agriculture and livestock farming, it needed buildings fit for the purpose; and secondly, the abundance of stone, an excellent building material that could be easily obtained from the numerous screes in Andorra.
